Here's a link to a reference that has a lot of info on Gato Torpedo Shutter Doors. Though this enables rivet counters, it's still worth a look for the merely curious.

Ships of a class built at the same yard often have noticeable variations, ships of a class built at many yards seem to have many more variations. Though this link has some resin parts for sale that are not of much use to R/C conversions (too fragile, perhaps), it also links to a few nice references. The references in the library also include WWII U Boat information.

I don't think David is going to offer a spectrum of torpedo doors for his Gato launchers, but I'd imagine the AMP parts could easily be adapted to the Caswell/Merriman system, as well as for those poor unfortunate boats that won't be returning fire...
