Revell Oscar-II Rc sub.

Hello, i am new to the RC submarine building and this site seemed like a good place to start. i was wondering, i a was to build a RC sub from the Revell Oscar 2, what parts would i need to complete it as a fully functional model (if there is a way i can use the twin-screws to turn the boat rather than setting up rudders could you also list that.).

Using propellers only for steering a RC model is Not good. Difficult to steer and No steering when at slow speeds or when no power to motors (when coasting).
Also you will need a dual-circuit motors-speed-control, using 2 receiver channels, which is larger and take up more space in a very crowded assembly (not good).

Do you have the 1/350th scale model?
Or is there also a larger version?
If so, I personally would not attempt to build a RC model that small, but some people have done it. Maybe they can help, but I would only be guessing on one that size. Sorry.

For a first time RC Sub build I would recommend the Revell 1/72 scale Gato kit. It's not too small and not too big. And Caswell has everything you need for it.

you are going to need to decide how your going to ballast it first.. then you will need 2-4 servos, 1 transmitter and reciever, 1-2 esc for your motors, a pitch controller, battery, water tight area, push rod seals, drive shaft seal, foam, weight for ballasting, brass rods, controll horns for the controll surfaces.... etc, etc , etc sometimes its best to just buy one your first time around and then most your questions can be answered by that.

Yes, if you have Never built any RC boats or ships, it would be best to start with a surface boat and get experience that way. The control and propulsion electronics and hardware are similar but much more is involved in subs, if you want them to dive and surface.

Rogue has just started the list of things you you will need to complete it. ;)

I built 17 Surface RC ships before I figured I had enough experience to do a Submarine. :D LOL :D

Not neccesarilly true. I built 2 subs before I ever attempted a surface ship. All that is required is a bit of rc knowledge period/ Be it cars, heli, boat. etc. Its all the same stuff.

Scale Ships offers a 1/96 Oscar, it is much larger an might be much easier to work with.
